Same happened today, the only difference is that, i didn’t open the browser. but opened an application in my latest KDE 4.4 called "Blogilo". I decided to check, whether it will work with my wordpress blog or not.I just opened it, I came up after asking for the KDEWallet global password and shown me it’s UI. The UI was stunning to catch your eye in first look.

Later what i did was

Opened Settings -> Configure Blogilo -> blogs

Clicked the button "Add" and given my blog authentication details in the window.

When I clicked the "Auto-Configure" button, it shown me some error

Then I logged in to my blog and changed the setting accordingly

My account is now verified and my blog title is retrieved.

Now my wordpress account is added successfully.

And my previous posts are listed in the main window.

And here comes my first post using Blogilo.

The main update is that, I changed the blog template today. Change from blue-black combo to black and white. The new look is a little modified version of Jillij. I made it a little wider to suit the 1024 * x resolution. It is a very simple and soft-eye theme with single column layout and I liked it very much.

After Fossmeet@NITC the life got tied mostly with office works and I didn’t get much time to blog or play with FOSS seriously. My lappy was almost sleeping these days. Now a bit relaxed after busy office schedule and planning to do something useful to me and the community. Have to look in to some ideas soon.

RPMs for Broadcom 802.11 wireless drivers are now available in the rpmfusion repository of fedora 10. All we have to do is 2-3 simple steps and here is what I have done in my system.

1) Enable the rpmfusion repository

You have to enable the rpmfusion repository using the command

sudo rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

2) Update the repo and install the driver package

The package we have to install is broadcom-wl and it depends on the package kmod-wl

sudo yum update
sudo yum install broadcom-wl

3) Reboot the system

When the system boots up, network manager will then detect the Broadcom wireless device and you will be able to connect to the wireless network through it

NB: Make sure that the “broadcom” kernel module is loaded. if not, add a line “modprobe broadcom” in /etc/rc.modules (In debian or debian based distros add a line “broadcom” in /etc/modules)

Two days later, on 12nd March I got a mail from Dell saying that there is a delay in the production and the delivery may slip for one week. I contacted Javed and he clarified that the delay is due to shortage of part.

Yesterday I got another mail from Javed saying that the shipment out scanned to Dart Apex on 15th and is now on the way to Trivandrum. By today morning 11AM I got call from the DHL office asking for a convenient time to hand over the shipment. They brought it to my office by 4PM.

Soon after returning from office I unpacked it. It was an all black lappy with glossy finish but with a pre installed crap. I have overwritten Vista with Fedora 10. Now just completed installation and its working fine. I have to fine tune  it later

DAY 1

The keynote speech was given by Krishnakant Mane (Friends call him KK), who is a physically challenged hacker. He is blind by birth but he use computer as a normal person and contributes to various free software projects with the help of screen reading software “Orca”.

Sujith Haridasan came up with another hacking workshop with CHDK ( Canon Hacking Development Kit). Which is a firmware run in Canon cameras to extend the functionality. He showed sone tricks like printing “hello world” on camera screen and blinking the LEDs etc…

After that Arun from SPACE and KK moderated a Open Discussion on Insight – The project which helps blind people to use computer. He also demonstrated how he uses computer for hacking with the help orca.

DAY 2

On Day 2 I was a little late due to some reasons, and when I reached the venue, Juan’s session was half on the way.

Another interesting personality was Juan Carlos Gentile who took a fabulous session on “Free Music”. He has been using Free Software for many years for video and audio processing

I have attended a workshop session on “Blender” the Free 3D modeling tool using which “Elephant’s Dream and “Big Buck Bunny” was created. The session was taken by Sadik

The Sessions I could attend on the last day were “Entrepreneurship and Freedom” by Anoop John and “Hacker Culture” by Anivar Aravind

In general the event was a good one, Informative and most important factor I noticed was that, Media is now understanding the word “Hacker” correctly which is extremely a happy news because it became a routine of media to use the word hacker in place of cracker.
